Also in Shaban of this year, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) freed Juwairiyah and then married her. She was among the captives during the Battle of Banu Al-Mustaliq (Muraisi’). She was the daughter of Al-Harith, the ruler of Banu Al-Mustaliq. Juwairiyah was first allocated to Thabit ibn Qays in the draw he made, but she agreed with Thabit to buy her freedom from him. She went to the Messenger of Allah to talk to him about this matter. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, <‘There is a better choice for you than this.’ Juwairiyah asked, ‘What is that, Oh Messenger of Allah?’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘I will pay the money for your freedom, and then marry you.’ She agreed> [related by Ahmad].
Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) paid for her freedom and married her. Due to this marriage, 100 people from the household of Banu Al-Mustaliq who had embraced Islam were freed. The Muslims used to say, “How can we keep the Messenger of Allah’s in-laws as slaves!” Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “There was no woman who was more blest for her people than Juwairiyah. Due to her, 100 of the household of Banu Al-Mustaliq were freed” [related by Ahmad][The Prophet’s Biography by Ibn Hesham].
If we contemplate on the wisdom of this marriage, we notice that due to the Messenger of Allah’s marriage to Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith (the ruler of Banu Al-Mustaliq), Banu Al-Mustaliq became the in-laws of the Messenger of Allah. Moreover, he (peace be upon him) treated them well, and strengthened the connection with them as he freed the daughter of their ruler and then married her. Furthermore, the Muslims freed 100 of her family of Banu Al-Mustaliq who had embraced Islam.
