The opening of Prophet Muhammad's chest when he was four years old

Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) stayed with the tribe of Bani Saad until he was four years old, when his chest was split open. It has been reported in Muslim’s book of authentic hadiths that,

«When Prophet Muhammed was playing with two boys, Gibrael came and took Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) away, split open his chest and took out his heart. Gibrael then took a lump out of Prophet Muhammed’s heart and said, ‘This is your portion of Satan.’ Next, he washed Prophet Muhammed’s heart with zamzam water in a gold container. After that Prophet Muhammed’s heart was joined together and restored to its place (in his chest). The two boys quickly ran to his mother (through breastfeeding), i.e. Helima, and told her, ‘Muhammed has been killed.’ Therefore, they all went towards Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him). Prophet Muhammed’s face had changed colour.» Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) added, «I saw the mark of the thread on Prophet Muhammed’s chest.» [related by Muslim].

The narrator then continued, "When his parents saw what happened, his father through breastfeeding said, ‘Oh Helima, I think this boy has been inflicted, so let us leave and return him to his family before we experience anything bad.’"

Helima said, "Therefore, we brought the boy back to them. Prophet Muhammed’s mother asked, ‘Why did you bring him back? Earlier, you were very eager to keep him.’" So they told her what had happened. However, Ameena calmed them as she said, "This son of mine is special. I did not experience the usual problems pregnant women feel when I was pregnant with him. When I was pregnant with him, I saw (in a dream) a light leave me which lit up the palaces of Sham." Then she (Helima) asked Prophet Muhammed’s mother if she could return with Prophet Muhammed to the countryside again. Consequently, Helima returned with Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) and he stayed with her until he was nearly five years old.
