Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) returned to Mecca, and Khadijah saw a level of trustworthiness from her trader and blessings with her money she had never seen before. Her servant Maysarah also told her what he saw of the noble and virtuous qualities and magnanimous generosity (in the character of Prophet Muhammed), and he mentioned Prophet Muhammed’s clear, logical way of thinking. As a result, she started to think of marrying Prophet Muhammed. She told this to her friend Nafeesah bint Maniyyah, who then went to Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) to talk to him about marrying Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her). Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) agreed to this.
Then Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) talked to his uncle, who went to Khadijah’s father. Her father agreed for his daughter to become engaged to Prophet Muhammed, and after that they married. Bani Hashim and it’s the leaders of the area of Mudar attended the wedding which was held two months after Prophet Muhammed returned from Sham. Khadijah’s dowry was a herd of twenty young female camels. Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) was forty years old when she married Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him).
At that time she was the most wealthy and intelligent, and had the noblest lineage of all the women in her tribe. She was the first woman Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) married, and he did not marry anyone else during her lifetime.
Allah (Glorified is He) gave Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) all his children from her except Ibrahim, who was the son of Maria the Coptic Christian which Muwqawqis, the ruler of Alexandria, had given to Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) as a gift.
Khadijah gave birth to Al-Qasim, because of whom Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) was called Abu Al-Qasim, then Zeinab, Ruqayah, Um Kalthoum, Fatima and Abdullah. All his sons died when they were young.
However, all his daughters were alive when Islam came and so they all entered Islam and immigrated to Medinah. But all of them died when Prophet Muhammed was still alive, except Fatima. Fatima lived six months after Prophet Muhammed and then joined him.
